Scholarships : Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program In Canada

Canada is building world-class research capacity by recruiting top-tier postdoctoral researchers at an internationally competitive level of funding and positioning them for success as the research leaders of tomorrow.

These prestigious two-year fellowships, worth $70,000 per year, are open to both Canadian and international researchers who have recently completed a PhD, PhD-equivalent, or health professional degree. Seventy fellowships will be awarded each year.

Applicants for a Banting postdoctoral fellowship must apply in close collaboration with the Canadian university or other eligible Canadian research institution at which they would hold the fellowship.

Successful applicants for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program will be selected on the basis of three criteria:
• research excellence and leadership in their area of expertise or research;
• quality of the applicant’s proposed research program; and
• institutional commitment and demonstrated synergy between applicant and institutional strategic priorities.

All applicants, without exception, must submit their completed applications by the program deadline of November 3, 2010. This includes input from the host institution and all referee letters.

Scholarship in Arts and History

The Kenza Foundation is supporting every year the studies abroad of two students in Arts and History of Art from prestigious universities in Paris. Scholarship for each student is up to €10,000 for the academic year 2011/2012.

WHO MAY APPLY
In order to be eligible, you have to meet the following criteria:

You are a less than 28-year old citizen or a legal permanent resident or nationals of France as of 1st January 2011
You are studying in 2010-2011 mainly in one of the four following institutions: Ecole du Louvre, University Paris IV, Paris III and Paris I Sorbonne (History of Art), Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts de Paris
You are an undergraduate or graduate students enrolling for the first-time outside France for full-time graduate or undergraduate studies. PhD students, post-doctorate students and more generally students who receive a stipend from their university to study, are off-limits;

SELECTION CRITERIA

Criteria are the following:

Your ambition and objectives;
Excellence of your education results;
Your financial status.

There is no restriction regarding the country or the university applied for by the student, though the quality of the studies considered, whether teaching is in a language other than French and students’ ambition will be appreciated by the jury to assess the excellence of the application.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS
The process is organized in parallel with the application process of the universities you are applying for, with scholarships being awarded subject to final acceptance by one of your top two choices. A comprehensive application form in French has to be carefully filled in including in particular detailed bio, references to work produced, recommendation letters from professors or other professionals, copies of diplomas and family tax returns. If you are invited to the second round of the process, you will then have an interview with the jury, composed notably of members of the foundation’s board and external personalities. Deadline for submission of the scholarship application for the year 2011-2012 is 15 December 2010. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

ICGC-Compton Fellowship

Fellowship program for graduate students from sub- Saharan Africa or Latin America whose studies and research will address issues of peace, human security, and conflict resolution in these regions, especially in relation to population and environmental concerns at University of Minnesota

The fellowships aim to build and sustain a community of Fellows over time that can help link peace and security to population and/or environmental issues. Fellowship recipients must be committed to returning to the region to apply their skills and education. These guidelines are for students
currently enrolled in doctoral programs at the University of Minnesota in relevant fields of study (please see eligibility guidelines, below).
Eligibility for a Fellowship
To be considered for an ICGC-Compton International Fellowship, applicants must:
(1) be enrolled in a doctoral program in the Colleges of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Sciences; Biological Sciences; Liberal Arts; Education and Human Development; or the School of Public Health;
(2) have research interests that address the interdisciplinary study of issues of peace, human security, and conflict resolution in Africa or Latin America, and ideally look to interdisciplinary connections among environment, population and peace; and
(3) receive nomination for these fellowships from the department or college in which they are enrolled. Receipt of the award is contingent upon the applicant’s department providing assistantship support during the year they are participating in our workshops and tuition and health insurance benefits for the fellowship year. Students should be at least one year away from dissertation fieldwork at the time of application (this enables them to participate in ICGC’s doctoral research workshop for the year prior to their research year).
In reviewing nominees ICGC gives priority to demonstrated academic excellence and commitment to the issues of the global south and disadvantaged communities.
Awards
Compton Peace Fellows will receive up to a $20,000 fellowship to support their dissertation fieldwork in their research year following successful completion of preliminary examinations and submission of an acceptable research proposal. They are required to participate in the DSSC interdisciplinary workshop on doctoral research in the year prior to dissertation fieldwork. Awards will be announced in March 2010.
Application Procedures
Applications and supporting documents are due by January 28, 2011, at the latest. A complete application will include the following documents.
(1) Statement of purpose, not exceeding two pages, clearly stating the applicant’s research program and showing its relationship to issues of the Compton International Fellowship Program
(2) Description of any past fieldwork and relevant language training and skills of one page or less
(3) Two letters of reference (one from the advisor, one from another faculty member) that address the ways in which the candidate’s dissertation and scholarly interests are related to the issues of the Compton Program and ICGC
(4) Current transcript of the candidate’s graduate work
(5) Completed application form (forms are available from the program office in 537 Heller Hall, or can be downloaded from our website www.icgc.umn.edu )
